Wanted Milford Township Fugitive taken into Custody following Pursuit

LYON TOWNSHIP, MI – Oakland County Sheriff Detectives assigned to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team were attempting to locate a wanted fugitive who was in the area of W. Eight Mile Rd and Pontiac Trail. Arrest

The suspect vehicle, a black Ford Contour, was observed turning into the Shell Gas Station located at 20777 Pontiac Trail. The driver exited his vehicle and entered the gas station. When the driver returned to his vehicle, Detectives made a positive identification.

With their emergency lights activated, Detectives attempted to box in the suspect vehicle with their police vehicles. The suspect placed his car in reverse and struck one of the undercover vehicles, pushing past it. A Detective positioned his police vehicle in front of the fleeing suspect’s vehicle. The suspect continued to flee at a high rate of speed and struck the Detective’s vehicle on the driver’s side, pushing the vehicle out of his way. The suspect then fled the gas station lot westbound on W. Eight Mile Rd. Detectives attempted to pursue the suspect, but the pursuit was terminated due to poor road conditions.

The suspect vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage from the crash but continued to flee eastbound on W. Eight Mile Rd. The OCSO Aviation Unit was requested to assist with conducting an aerial search for the suspect vehicle. Detectives and Deputies from Lyon Township located the suspect vehicle inside the Novi Meadows Mobile Home Community, at an address in the 500 block of Eckschtay Street. Sheriff’s Deputies established a perimeter and requested to have an OCSO K-9 Unit to respond to the scene. The suspect was located hiding inside of a residence near where he had abandoned his vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody.

Neither the suspect, nor any Deputies involved with the apprehension were injured.

The suspect was subsequently lodged at the Oakland County Jail on a three-count warrant for sexual assault from the South Lyon Police Department, an outstanding felony warrant for Assault with the Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder from Michigan State Police- West Branch, and a new charge of Felonious Assault with a Motor Vehicle stemming from the intentional crash into the Detectives police vehicle.
