EAST CHINA TOWNSHIP, MI – A 33 year old Marine City man was seriously injured this morning when his vehicle stuck a Tri-Hospital EMS ambulance.
Deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to River Road just north of Hathaway Road shortly before 5:00 a.m. for a head-on crash. When they arrived, deputies observed 2003 GMC Envoy was northbound on River Road when crossed the centerline of the road and struck the ambulance, which was southbound.
The driver and sole passenger in the Envoy had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the St. Clair Fire Department. He was transported by another Tri-Hospital Ambulance to Ascension River District Hospital in East China Township.
There were three occupants in the ambulance, the driver, a 33 year old man from Macomb Township, a 24 year old female paramedic who was in the jump seat in the rear of the unit, and a 67 year old woman from Port Huron Township who was being transported. The EMS workers sustained minor injuries. The woman who was being transported on a gurney in the ambulance told deputies that she was not injured.
The Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit was called to the scene of the crash, which remains under investigation.
