FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, MI – A Midland County woman was killed in a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Stumpmier Road, west of Telegraph Road, in Frenchtown Township.

The initial investigation determined that a 37-year-old woman  from Midland, Michigan was driving a red in color 2013 Mercedes passenger vehicle westbound on Stumpmier Road. For unknown reasons, the woman lost control of her vehicle leaving the roadway to the south entering into a ditch where her vehicle then struck a tree. After impact, the Mercedes rotated and reentered the roadway coming to rest, where it caught fire.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene extinguishing the vehicle fire. The victim was located inside of the Mercedes deceased.

At the time of the traffic crash, the female victim was not wearing her safety belt. Speed and alcohol are unknown factors at this time. The name of the woman is being withheld pending contact with her next of kin.

The Frenchtown Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance responded to the scene to assist. The crash remains under investigation by Deputy Sheriffs Nick Burkhart and Alec Preadmore of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division.
