Sheriff’s Office Seeks Information Related to Homicide in City of Pontiac


PONTIAC, MI – On March 23rd, 2020, at approximately 12:32am, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies from the Pontiac Substation were called to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital on the report of a victim who was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival, Deputies spoke with a second person, who had been the victim of a grazing wound from a bullet to his back, which was non-life threatening. The first victim, who suffered from multiple gunshot wounds, was not able to be resuscitated by hospital staff and was pronounced deceased. This victim has been identified as Marquis Myles, a 23-year-old man, a resident of the City of Pontiac.

The surviving victim, a 22-year-old man, also a resident of the City of Pontiac, indicated to Detectives he and Marquis Myles had traveled to the area of Osmun and Russell to meet with two individuals. He explained further the two subjects approached the vehicle, opened the back doors, and began shooting inside. The surviving victim, who was the driver, accelerated away as the gunshots continued. He realized the passenger had been severely injured by the gunshots and drove to the hospital for treatment.

Deputies arrived at the area of the shooting and discovered multiple shell casings in the area of Osmun and Russell. An Evidence Technician processed both the scene of the shooting and evidence at the hospital.

Through leads which were generated, Detectives identified Delorean Jones, a 24-year-old man, of Pontiac and Davonte Burkett, a 28-year-old man, of Pontiac as the two suspects responsible for the homicide and shooting. On March 23rd, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team took Jones into custody.

Both suspects are currently on Parole from the Michigan Department of Corrections. Jones has a criminal history which includes drug charges and Armed Robbery. Burkett has a criminal history which includes three counts of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Discharging a Firearm into a Building, and Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less than Murder.

The case was presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office who authorized the following charges on both Jones and Burkett:

• (1) Count – Murder – Open – Life Felony
• (1) Count – Assault with Intent to Murder – Life Felony
• (1) Count – Weapons – Firearms – Possession by Felon – 5-year Felony
Charges issued only on Davonte Burkett:
• (3) Counts – Felony Firearm – Third of Subsequent Offense – 10-year Felony
Charges issued only on Delorean Jones:
• (3) Counts – Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony – 2-year Felony

Delorean Jones was arraigned on March 26th at 50th District Court in front of the Honorable Judge Cynthia Walker. Bond was denied. Jones’ next court date is April 9th at 1:30pm in front of the Honorable Judge Walker.
