fatal crash

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, MI – A fatal traffic crash between two vehicles from Toledo occurred on Sterns Road, west of Secor Road, in Bedford Township, at approximately 2:16 PM on Tuesday March 31, 2020.

The preliminary investigation revealed that 77-year-old James L. McGee, Toledo, Ohio man was driving a silver 2004 Buick Century eastbound on Sterns Rd. While traveling eastbound, the Buick turned left into a private driveway. It then re-entered the roadway and continued eastbound. While traveling east, the Buick crossed the centerline where it struck a black 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up.

The Chevrolet pick-up, which was traveling westbound, was being driven by a 38-year-old Toledo, Ohio man. James McGee, the Buick Century driver, was treated at the scene before being pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Chevrolet S-10 pick-up was transported by Monroe Community Ambulance to Promedica Toledo Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Excessive speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. It is unknown at this time if alcohol is a factor in the crash.

Monroe Community Ambulance and the Bedford Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by Deputy Sheriffs Jon Cregar, Nick Burkhart and Alec Preadmore of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Bureau along with Deputy Zak Moore and Steve Warren of the Uniform Services Division.
