Woman’s Death in Oakland County Jail Ruled Suicide

PONTIAC, MI – On March 28th, 2020, a 45-year-old female inmate, from Waterford, who was being held at the Oakland County Jail, was found in her cell unresponsive. suspicious death investigation

She was found unresponsive in her cell during normal rounds at 9:28PM. CPR was immediately initiated. The inmate was transported by Star EMS to McLaren Oakland where she was pronounced deceased at 10:02PM.

The female inmate had been checked at 9:08PM by a Deputy doing rounds. The inmates were again checked 18 minutes later when she was discovered to be hanging in her cell by a bed sheet. The inmate had not been on any active suicide watch nor indicated that she had any suicidal tendencies.

The inmate was waiting for a court date on a charge of credit card fraud out of 51st District Court. The woman had been lodged at the Oakland County Jail since March 17th, 2020.

Detectives from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigation Unit responded to the jail. The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the cause of death as suicide by hanging. The incident remains under investigation.
