MADISON HEIGHTS, MI – Late last night we informed you that two officers in the Manistee Police Department had tested positive for COVID-19. This morning we are learning that a Madision Heights Police Officer has also tested positive for the virus.
On April 2, 2020, the Madison Heights Police Department (MHPD) was notified that a police officer has tested positive for COVID-19, commonly known as the novel coronavirus. As of this morning there are 53 confirmed COVID-19 in Madison Heights.
“Our police officers and fire fighters are on the frontlines every day, to protect our community,” said Mayor Brian Hartwell. “We are working to implement additional distancing strategies including temporarily moving our department to 12-hours shifts in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 among our employees and in our city.”
“We are very concerned that one of our officers has tested positive for COVID-19,” said Chief of Police Corey Haines. “We have been preparing for this possibility throughout the City and are working to provide additional information to all of our employees.”
This news is not a reason to deter the public from calling 9-1-1 if they need emergency assistance. The Police and Fire Departments continue to take extensive measures to keep the community members safe including the use of personal protective equipment. The City’s public safety dispatchers have been asking additional COVID-19 screening questions for all calls for service and other modifications to fire and police response operations have been made.
The City continues to encourage our residents and employees to take precautions to help keep themselves and others safe from COVID-19.
