PONTIAC, MI – A 4-year-old child is recovering today after he was shot inside of his home when a hail of bullets started flying through the room where he was playing video games.
At 1:47AM on Monday April 6th, 2020, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 300 block of Going Street on the report of gunshots being fired into an occupied dwelling. The caller reported a young boy, who had been inside the home, was shot. There were two adults, 29-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman along with a total of four children, ages 2, 4, 5 and 9, were inside of the home when the house was shot with multiple bullets from outside of the home.
Residents inside the home reported they had heard multiple gunshots and then witnessed debris flying around inside of the residence. Thy got down onto the floor and waited until the gunshots had stopped. The mother of the 4-year-old boy immediately noticed he had been injured. She placed him in her vehicle and began driving him to St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital for help. She was met by responding Deputies who escorted the mother and her injured child the rest of the way to the hospital. The child was treated for a gunshot wound to his shoulder. When he was stabilized, he was transferred to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital for additional medical care.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies were informed the child is in stable condition. He had been shot in the shoulder and he may have suffered some internal injuries. The child’s mother advised Deputies her son was playing video games in the living room with his father when she heard the gunshots. Deputies canvassed the immediate area for evidence and potential witnesses. Deputies located three three spent shell casings lying in the front yard of the home and a spent shell inside of the home. No other residents in the home were injured.
Deputies searched the area for possible suspects or a suspect vehicle but did not have success. An OCSO Evidence Technician responded to process the scene and to collect evidence. Detectives were notified and responded to the scene. Detectives are continuing with the investigation. The child is expected to make a full recovery.
