6 Charged in Murder of Genesee County Man

SWARTZ CREEK, MI – Six individuals related to the Monday evening shooting death of a 49-year-old Gaines Township man are now facing charges in his murder.

At approximately 7:13 PM on April 20th, Michigan State Police Troopers were dispatched to a residence on Hill Road in Gaines Township in reference to reports of a man shot.

Upon arrival, a man later identified as 49-year-old David Lee Holmes was found lying on the floor with two obvious gunshot wounds to his head and torso. Efforts to revive him failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses earlier had observed a vehicle leaving the scene and were able to
provide police with a description and license plate number which were relayed to other police officers.

Moments later, a Metro Police Authority officer spotted the vehicle and with back-up from the Michigan State Police, a traffic stop was made. Six passengers in the vehicle were taken into custody and all six stand charged in connection to the incident. They are:

Asia Nicole Jenkins, 21-yeras-old
Count 1: First Degree Premeditated Murder
Count 2: Felony Firearm
Count 3: Carrying Concealed Weapon

Darryon Shakur Miles, 23-years-old
Count 1: First Degree Premeditated Murder
Count 2: Felony Firearm
Count 3: Carrying Concealed Weapon

Raymond Keith Scarbrough, 24-years-old
Count 1: First Degree Premeditated Murder
Count 2: Felony Firearm
Count 3: Carrying Concealed Weapon

Leante Tyquon Brewer, 18-years-old
Count 1: Feon in Possession of a Firearm
Count 2: Carrying Concealed Weapon
Count 3: Tampering with Evidence

Leante Brewer was previously convicted for Assault with Dangerous Weapon (Felonious Assault) and Asslt w/Int Great Bodily Hrm Less Murder or by Strangulation. He was convicted in June of 2019 and was on probation at the time of his arrest.

“According to the police investigation, the homicide occurred after members of the group got into an argument and a fight with the victim inside the house and guns were drawn and shots fired,” said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.

State police have said the dispute was over money. The house was the scene of a drug raid four weeks ago.

All six were arraigned today in 67th District Court with the following bonds:
