MADISON HEIGHTS, MI – On Saturday May 2nd , 2020 at approximately 11:49 pm, the Madison Heights Police Department (MHPD) were called to the area of 11 Mile Rd and Hales on a report of a fight. Additional 911 calls then notified MHPD that shots were fired at the same location and an individual who had been shot.
Officers arrived on scene and found a 21 year old Redford man lying in the middle of the roadway. The man had sustained a gunshot to the chest and was pronounced dead on scene. He was found to have been in possession of a handgun during the incident. The handgun was recovered at the scene.
A 29 year old Detroit man, who remained at the scene and called 911, was confirmed by Officers to have been the shooter of the victim. The man was found to be in possession of a handgun used in the shooting and was confirmed to be a valid Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL) holder.
He was arrested at the scene for homicide.
The investigation is ongoing and was presented the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.
On Monday May 4th, 2020, the 29 year old man was released from police custody with no charges being filed at this time. MHPD Detectives are still working with the Oakland Prosecutor’s Office regarding the case.
