CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – On Saturday May 16th, 2020, at 4:00 PM, human remains were discovered by a Chesterfield Resident, while mushroom hunting in a heavily wooded and swampy area south of 23 Mile Rd just east of I-94 FWY.

Chesterfield Twp Patrol Officers were directed to the remains buy the mushroom hunter. The officers called Chesterfield Twp Detectives to the scene along with the Macomb County Medical Examiner’s Office Investigator. The remains were only bones, heavily weathered clothing and camping equipment. These items were examined and no sign of trauma was discovered.

A Michigan Identification card was located inside a wallet near the remains. The card was issued to a 35 year old white male who is currently listed as a missing person out of Eastpointe Mi. The male was reported missing in July 2018. The remains were collected and secured by the Medical Examiner’s Investigator for further analysis.

A Chesterfield Twp Detective was able to make contact with the next of kin who currently lives in Texas. The case will continue to be investigated by the Chesterfield Twp Detectives but as of today there is no sign of criminal activity.
