Allegan County Prosecuting Attorney Myrene Koch has charged Dennis Lee Bowman with Open Murder, Felony Murder, and Child Abuse First Degree.
31-years-ago on March 11th,1989, 14-year-old Aundria Michelle Bowman was reported as a runaway from her home in Fillmore Township.
Over the course of 31 years, law enforcement officers from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Allegan City Police, and the Village of Douglas investigated and reviewed this missing persons case as they followed up on countless leads.
In the fall of 2019, detectives from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police began working on a joint investigation with the Norfolk Virginia Police Department and Naval Criminal Investigations Service regarding a homicide in 1980 in Virginia. In November of 2019, Dennis Lee Bowman was taken into custody for charges stemming from that Norfolk 1980 murder case. Bowman was extradited from Michigan to Virginia to face those charges.
In November 2019, Dennis Bowman was taken into custody on murder charges for the death of 25-year-old Kathleen Doyle, who was killed in 1980 in Norfolk, Virginia while her husband was deployed as a Navy pilot.
On February 4th, 2020, new information lead law enforcement to a shallow grave in Allegan County where skeletal remains were found. After extensive medical and DNA testing by the WMED Forensic Pathology and Michigan State University Forensic Biology Laboratory, those remains were positively identified as those of Aundria Bowman.
Based on the new developments in the investigation, the Allegan County Prosecutors Office has authorized charges of Open Murder, Felony Murder, Child Abuse 1st Degree, and Mutilation of a Body, against Dennis Lee Bowman. He faces life in prison if convicted.
