Fatal Crash causes closure of M63 north of Benton Harbor [Updated]

Riverside Michigan Fatal Crash

HAGAR TOWNSHIP, MI – A fatal two vehicle head-on crash on M63 north of Benton Harbor near Paw Paw Rd had the roadway closed in both directions.

On Tuesday May 19th, 2020, shortly after 3:00p.m., two vehicles collided head-on on M63 near Paw Paw Rd. Troopers from the Michigan State Police Niles Post responded to the scene where they opened an investigation into the cause of the crash.

The passenger of one of the vehicles, a 60 year old Benton Harbor women, was declared dead at the scene due to severe injuries.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, Michigan for injuries. Names of the involved parties are being with held pending notification of next of kin.

Alcohol is considered a factor in this incident. 

A message from MDOT showed that M63 was reopened just shortly before 7:00pm.

The Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by The Berrien County Sheriffs Department, Coloma Township Police, North Berrien Fire Rescue and Medic One ambulance.
