Fatal Accident Involving Pedestrian in Oxford Township

OXFORD TOWNSHIP, MI – On Wednesday May 20th, 2020, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies and Oxford Township Fire Department responded to the 400 block of Kirkwood Drive on the report of a male subject who had been struck by a motor vehicle. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit was requested. 

A 45- year-old female resident of Oxford Township was driving a 2008 Town and Country. She had backed out of her driveway and started heading east on Kirkwood Drive when she struck a 61-year- old male resident of Oxford Township who was lying in the roadway. Witnesses reported seeing the male lying there prior to her backing out of her driveway.

The suspects next of kin stated he may have suffered from a medical condition prior to being struck.

The Oxford Fire Department arrived and was unable to resuscitate the pedestrian. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office arrived and took possession of the victim. An autopsy is pending.

The driver of the Chrysler was wearing a safety belt and was not injured. The airbags did not deploy.

Alcohol may have been a factor on the part of the victim, although the crash remains under investigation.
