Detroit Police Officer Shot in the Line of Duty in 2017 Dies

DETROIT, MI – The Detroit Police Department announced on June 1st 2020, that an officer who was shot in 2017 has died.

Police Officer Waldis Johnson, a 16-year veteran with the Detroit Police Department was shot in the head while in the line of duty while answering a domestic call on April 30th, 2017.

After Waldis Johnson was shot, his partner, Detroit Police Officer Darren “Lucky” Weathers, returned fire, killing the suspect, and then dragged Johnson to safety.

Johnson never recovered from his injuries. He had remained unconscious in a rehabilitation facility.

Waldis Johnson died due to his injuries on May 31st, 2020.

“We are truly saddened by the loss of our brother in blue. He will be missed and never forgotten.” stated the Detroit Police Department on Twitter.
