Mekk Fulton

DETROIT, MI – Darnell Robinson, 22-years-old, and Edward Thoran, 24-years-old, of Detroit, have both been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Jamekia Fulton and the non-fatal shooting of another woman. Ms. Fulton’s brother was also injured during the shooting.

On May 24th, 2020 at approximately 3:30 a.m., Detroit police officers were on patrol in the area of Blackmoor Street and Eastwood Avenue in Detroit when they heard gun shots fired. Investigation by the officers led them to a vehicle stopped on the side of a residence in the 18900 block of Blackmoor Street.

Upon arrival, the officers discovered two women in the vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the rear-seat passenger, Ms. Fulton, to a local hospital for treatment. She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The second wounded female victim, who was found in the front seat passenger side of the vehicle, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. The driver of the vehicle sustained injuries from flying glass.

It is alleged that earlier that day, the driver of the vehicle had a verbal argument with Darnell Robinson that escalated into a physical altercation. It is further alleged that later that night, when the victims were sitting in the car, both defendants approached, drew weapons and fired into the vehicle, killing Ms. Fulton and wounding two other people.

Robinson and Thoran have each been charged with First Degree Murder, two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder and three counts of Felony Firearm. Defendant Robinson has also been charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Robinson and Thoran were arraigned this afternoon before Magistrate Millicent Sherman in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conferences are scheduled for June 19, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examinations are scheduled for June 25, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles. Both defendants were remanded to jail.
