DETROIT, MI – Jerome Mack Fitzpatrick, 46-years-old, of Detroit, has been charged with a near fatal carjacking that involved a 35-year-old woman and her 7 month old daughter.
On Saturday, March 7th, 2020, at approximately 4:20 a.m., in the 18400 block of Sussex, a 35-year-old woman, while she was dropping her child off at a relatives home, exited her gray 2011 Volvo where she the took her 7 month old daughter who was seated in a car seat in the back rear driver’s side of the vehicle out.
The mother then carried her daughter to the passenger side to get some items out of her car. At this point, allegedly Jerome Fitzpatrick entered the vehicle through the driver’s side, put the vehicle in reverse and drove at high rate of speed. He struck the mother and her child, knocking them down to the ground.
It is also alleged that Fitzpatrick drove away with her personal items inside the car.
Police and medics arrived at the scene and transported both victims to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
As a result of an ongoing investigation by the Detroit Police Department Jerome Fitzpatrick was arrested on June 5th, 2020. Today he was charged and arraigned on one count each of Carjacking, Unarmed Robbery, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property over $20,000 and Unlawful Driving Away an Automobile. He received a $250,000 cash bond. His Probable Cause Conference is on June 17, 2020 and his Preliminary Examination is on June 24, 2020.
