BAD AXE, MI – One man was killed and six other people were injured in a two vehicle crash early Sunday evening.
On June 14th, 2020, shortly after 7:00 p.m., the Huron County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Sebewaing Rd. and Bay Port Rd in Sebewaing Township, which was the scene of a two vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a man from Bad Axe.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a 2014 Chrysler Minivan, driven by 35-year-old Ashley Horetski, of Port Austin, was northbound on Bay Port Rd, south of Sebewaing Rd. The investigation revealed that Ashley Horetski failed to stop at the intersection. She and her children ages 15, 11 and 7 then collided with a westbound 2010 Dodge Journey driven by 58- year-old Gerald Steinbis and his 2 passengers, all of Bad Axe. Both vehicles rolled over and came to rest in the northwest portion of the intersection.
Gerald Steinbis died at the scene His passengers were his 48-year-old wife Beverly Steinbis and 27-year-old Justin Ackerman were injured from the crash. All in the Horetski vehicle were injured as well. All injured were taken to Scheurer Hospital of Pigeon by Ambulance. All but one were eventually flown or taken by ambulance to out of county hospitals.
Reconstruction Deputies from the Huron County Sheriff’s Office responded and to process the scene. The roadway was closed until approximately 9:00 p.m.
Other agencies assisting at this accident were Sebewaing Police, Fire and Ambulance, Owendale Fire, Scheurer Ambulance, Elkton EMS, ACW Ambulance, Central Huron Ambulance and the Huron County Road Commission.
This accident remains under investigation.
