Kroger Karen

UPDATE: Kroger Karen charged with Disturbing the Peace

LIVONIA, MI – Until recently Kroger Karen was only known to those in the general area of the Kroger store that is located near Eight Mile Rd and Farmington. It seems she allegedly has a reputation for being a bully.

A quick search on the internet and you can find various posts and comments about this woman and her antics. Reddit has a subdirectory, that various comments can be found about this person.

On Saturday June 13th, 2020, Shaneeka Montgomery-Strickland and her children were shopping at the supermarket. Shaneeka’s little boy wanted some Gatoraid. The available product was up higher than he was tall enough to get it. So he steps up on the shelving unit to retrieve what he wanted. Evidently this unfolded directly in front of a woman who is dubbed with the nickname of ‘Kroger Karen’.

Kroger Karen allegedly become very irritated at the little boy and started yelling at him. Shaneeka says. “I told her please don’t yell at them and then she started yelling at me. And I said, ‘You don’t have to yell at me, they got the Gatorade.’

If she had a problem with their behavior then she should address her as the child’s mother and not speak to or reprimand the child. From Shaneeka’s description, Kroger Karen became somewhat of a lunatic over such a minor issue. Little did Shaneeka know but Kroger Karen was going to exercise her revenge in the parking lot.

When Shaneeka and her children were finished shopping, they exited the grocery store and walked to their car. As they are putting the groceries into the car, Kroger Karen and her child, who is in a stroller, proceeded to stand behind the Stickland car, blocking them from leaving the parking lot. That’s when Strickland pressed record on her cellphone to ensure that she had documented any events from that moment on. Shaneeka also live streamed the situation on Facebook.

As you watch the video, Livonia Police show up on scene. Kroger Karen quickly runs up to them demanding that Strickland stop recording the incident. Because the incident was taking place outside, in public view, Shaneeka Montgomery-Strickland had every right and law on her side and did not have to stop the video recording.

Given the recent events in Minneapolis and now Atlanta, we are all becoming more aware of what has really been happening in our communities to those individuals of color.

It is the younger generation that has taken the lead in this immense divide. Protesting has taken place not only in the United States over the treatment of those in the black community but around the world also.

Obviously Kroger Karen has not been listening to or paying attention to the shift that is taking place around her. Social Services should also be alerted to the situation because it could have went horribly wrong and placed her child and Shaneeka’s children in danger and harms way.

From what can be determined, Livonia Police made Kroger Karen move from behind the Strickland vehicle and they did write an incident report about the situation. No further actions were taken by police. Livonia Police should have taken further steps to ensure that she does not do this to any other family no matter the color of their skin.
