MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI – On Monday June 15th, 2020, at approximately 2:20am, Macomb County Sheriff deputies were called to the Hub Sports Bistro located on 21 Mile Rd. near Garfield for shots fired.
A male who had been told to leave the establishment earlier in the evening returned and had fired two shots; one at the rear door as a staff member was exiting and a second at a vehicle within the parking lot. A 21 year old male out of Macomb Township was within the establishment and requested to leave by security. It is reported that the male threatened to “shoot up” the building after he was escorted out of the bar by security. A short time later, the male returned in a red Honda and can be seen on security footage firing one shot from a shot gun at the building’s rear door area.
A female staff member had been exiting the rear door at this time and was pulled back into the bar by staff. A gun shot was heard just as the door was shut and a bullet was located within the door. Neither staff member was injured. The male drove off and returned minutes later firing a second shot, striking a patron’s silver Cadillac within the lot. The second gun shot was also caught on security footage.
Deputies were able to gather information while on scene that led to a traffic stop of a white Dodge Challenger just near 21 Mile and Garfield. The male driver was found to be in possession of a weapon and in violation of concealed carry laws. The male, who was taken into custody, had also been in the Hub Sports Bistro earlier and provided the identity of the suspect male who fired shots a short time earlier.
Deputies traveled to the suspect’s residence and located a spent shell casing outside of the vehicle located at the residence. Deputies were able to make contact with the suspect and he surrendered peacefully. The male matches the description of the suspect. A search warrant was executed on the residence and a loaded shot gun was located in the home. The clothing the male had been wearing while within the establishment was also located.
The male was taken into custody and lodged at the Macomb County Jail for Assault With Intent to Murder and Malicious Destruction of Property. This incident has been forwarded to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Further information will be released when it becomes available.
