FLINT TOWNSHIP, MI – A video that was recorded on a cellphone and posted online showing an employee of Macy’s being beaten by another inside of the department store, located in the Genesee Valley Mall, has sparked an investigation and calls for those involved have been named as Persons of Interest.
On Monday June 15th, 2020, at approximately 5:45 p.m, officers with the Flint Township Police Department were dispatched to 4600 Miller Rd, Macy’s, located in the Genesee Valley Mall, on an assault complaint.
Officers learned that an employee of the store was assaulted by a young black man who fled the scene with a second individual after the assault. Store surveillance video confirmed the assault did take place against the employee.
The beating was also captured on the second persons cellphone who shared the beating online. To say that the video has gone viral is a true understatement. Various copies of the video are available online and if you add up the number of times the video has been watched, it would easily reach over 1.5 million times.
There are some who have viewed the video online and have posted comments that state the Macy’s employee could be overheard using the N-Word multiple times while on the phone. This is what is being allegedly held as the reason why the beat down took place. A Macy’s spokeswoman has stated that the attack was unprovoked.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said that “We’re actively engaging with law enforcement to ensure every facet of the incident is investigated thoroughly.”
According to sources, Flint Township Police want to speak with Damire Canell Palmer, 18-years-old, and Damarquay Palmer, 22-years-old, about the incident.
A person with the username of FT Quay posted the video to Facebook. The caption to the video said that the employee mumbled the N-word before the man in the video began to beat the Macy’s employee mercilessly. FT Quay is assumed to be Damarquay Palmer, the second person who captured the video on his cellphone. WSMH on Saturday named the 2 Persons of Interest.
The mall and Macy’s have added extra security since the time the assault took place.
As of Tuesday morning, June 23rd, 2020, no one has been taken into custody for the incident.
Anyone who has viewed the video and/or knows the whereabouts of Damire Palmer and Damarquay Palmer, you are asked to contact Detective Hart at (810)-600-3250 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL (5245). You can also submit your tip information at www.crimestoppersofflint.com
