Troy Man Charged in Fatal Car Crash

DETROIT, MI – The U.S. Marshal Service arrested Daniel Cook last night in Battle Creek. Cook has been on the run since July of 2019 when he was involved in a fatal hit and run crash.

Daniel Drvell Cook, 34-years-old, of Troy, has been charged in connection with a fatal car crash that killed motorcyclist Herman Ray Walters, II.

It is alleged that on July 28th, 2019 at approximately 12:24 a.m., the Daniel Cook and his passenger were driving southbound on the Southfield Freeway when he exited the freeway at Schoolcraft.  It is further alleged that he drove his vehicle at a high rate of speed on the southbound Southfield Freeway service drive, when he rear-ended the victim, Herman Walters, who was riding his motorcycle southbound on the Southfield Freeway service drive.  The suspect fled the scene in his vehicle. Further facts and evidence will be place on the record at the Preliminary Examination.

Cook/Pickett has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Reckless Driving Causing Death, Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Causing Death and Operating While License Suspended/Revoked/Denied Causing Death.
