CLARE COUNTY, MI – A broken wind shield and an unregistered vehicle will surely get noticed by police. This fugitive did not remember that patrol cars have the ability to scan any vehicle to see if it is registered or not. Not only that but it appears that this hooptie had not one fugitive attached to it but two.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Mount Pleasant Post were patrolling near Eight Point Lake Rd. and Lake Station Ave in Garfield Twp. of Clare County on Tuesday June 30th, 2020, at approximately 12:15pm.   They observed a vehicle traveling north on Lake Station Ave. with no registration plate and a cracked windshield.

Troopers attempted to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle near Eight Point Lake Rd. and Lake Station Ave.  The vehicle failed to stop and fled after the troopers activated their emergency overhead lights and sirens.  The troopers disengaged and patrolled the area to locate the vehicle.

The suspect vehicle drove recklessly and at high rates of speed through the residential area near Crooked Lake Dr. and Woodland Dr.  Troopers were subsequently able to locate the suspect vehicle in a wooded area as the lone occupant/driver was attempting to walk away from the vehicle.

Troopers initiated a foot pursuit and the suspect evaded, circled back around and returned to his vehicle. He then drove out of the wooded area and through the front yards of residences. Troopers again located the vehicle after it continued to drive recklessly through the neighborhood, nearly striking two individuals on a golf cart.  Troopers saw the suspect vehicle as the driver was attempting to hide it between two residences on Woodland Dr.  troopers initiated another foot pursuit and were able to capture the suspect who was a 23-year-old Mount Pleasant man.

The suspect was a wanted fugitive out of Clare County for Motor Vehicle Theft.  He had a suspended driver’s license and stolen property in the vehicle.

Another individual with a warrant for the same Motor Vehicle Theft was also arrested by the Clare County Sheriff’s Department near the scene. The suspect was transported and treated at Mid-Michigan Health in Clare.  He was later lodged at the Clare County Jail.

He is currently lodged and is awaiting arraignment on several felony charges.  A trooper involved in this incident received medical treatment at McLaren Hospital for minor injuries sustained during the foot pursuit and was released.

The Michigan State Police were assisted on scene by the Clare County Sheriff’s Department and the Garfield Township Fire & Rescue.
