Off Duty Warren Police Officer Arrested and Charged

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI - A Warren police officer will face a judge this morning to be formally arraigned on domestic violence and felonious assault charges following a July 4th incident.

On Saturday July 4th, 2020, at approximately 10:45am, Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in Washington Township for a domestic violence complaint.

Upon arrival, deputies met with the caller who stated she witnessed Anwar Khan assaulting a man and then a woman. The caller stated that she had been in a wooded area near the residence with two men. Anwar entered the woods and began assaulting one of the men while the second one ran away. The man who was being assaulted was able to escape and fled the area.

Anwar Khan returned to the residence with the caller and began assaulting a woman who had been sleeping. Khan then threatened to assault the caller. The caller called 911 and deputies arrived.

Deputies were able to locate the man who had been assaulted. He stated that Khan assaulted him and then pointed a gun at him. No shots were fired.

Anwar Khan was taken into custody and his weapons were confiscated. Khan was lodged at the Macomb County Jail where he refused to provide a DNA sample upon arrest for a felony. Both the male and female were checked out medically and released on scene.

Khan is currently employed at the Warren Police Department.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office issued a four count warrant for Anwar Khan:

  • Count 1: Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Felonious Assault) (felony)
  • Count 2: Domestic Violence (misdemeanor)
  • Count 3: Domestic Violence (misdemeanor)
  • Count 4: DNA Profiling – Refuse or Resist Providing Samples (misdemeanor)

Khan was given a $10,000 personal bond and is scheduled to be arraigned by the Romeo District Court on 7/10/20 at 9:30am.
