Number of Shootings on Detroit Freeways Continues to Climb

DETROIT, MI - On Saturday July 11th, 2020, at approximately at 5:50 PM, Michigan State Police Troopers were dispatched to Northbound M-39, the Southfield Fwy, and Puritan Ave, in Detroit, for a person slumped over the wheel. This is the 14th known shooting on a freeway in the Detroit metro area in recent weeks. The first noted as of June 15th, 2020.

While enroute to the scene, Detroit EMS began transporting the victim, a woman, to a local hospital in Detroit. Troopers arrived on scene and observed a single vehicle blocking the left lane with a bullet hole in the front passenger side window.

Troopers arrived at the hospital and the woman who was unable to speak but provide head movements to basic questions. She was asked if she knew who the suspect was and she indicated she did. She is currently undergoing medical treatment.

Troopers and detectives are continuing to investigate this incident and identify this suspect. At least two people have been killed in this spree of shootings on Detroit area roadways.
