DETROIT, MI – On Sunday July 12th, 2020, at approximately 5:55 AM, Michigan State Police Troopers were dispatched to westbound I-96 Express at the Southfield Fwy ramp for a body in the middle of the road.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a motorcycle rider was driving at a high rate of speed on westbound I-96 Express approaching the Southfield Freeway. The male rider lost control of the motorcycle on the ramp to the Southfield Fwy. He then struck the wall.

The rider became separated from the motorcycle, went over the side of the bridge and landed down on the westbound local lanes.

He was pronounced dead on the scene. Next of kin have not been notified. Excessive speed is a factor. Investigation continues.

The freeway reopened at about 10:00 a.m.
