DETROIT, MI – A man armed with a sword has been shot and killed by Detroit Police. Chief Craig addresses the media regarding the officer involved shooting incident that occurred tonight on the city’s west side.

The incident took place near Meyers Rd & Grand River Ave on Thursday, July 30th, 2020 at about 7:30 p.m.

The suspect appears to have been wearing padding that is believed to have diminished the effect of the tasers that were deployed before he was fatally shot.

One of the officers was injured when the suspect cut him with the sword near his eye.

One round of gunfire hit the suspect. While he was being transported to the hospital, he died while enroute.
