ROGERS CITY, MI – Troopers from the Alpena Post arrested a man in Presque Isle County for carrying two loaded 9mm handguns and a pair of brass knuckles in a vehicle he was a passenger in.
On Wednesday July 29th, 2020, at approximately 8:20pm, troopers from the Michigan State Police Alpena Post stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at the intersection of North Allis Highway and M211 in North Allis Township. Troopers recovered several weapons from inside of the vehicle and the passenger was arrested.
During the investigation, Troopers noticed the passenger began making movements that alerted them. The passenger, 23-year-old Carlos Alberto Leal, of Detroit, also has several outstanding warrants for his arrest. During a search of the passenger side of the vehicle, troopers located two 9mm handguns and a pair of brass knuckles. The weapons were seized and Leal was lodged in the Presque Isle County Jail.
The driver, a 19-year-old woman, from Detroit, produced a Michigan identification card but was unable to produce a valid drivers license.
Leal was arraigned in the 89th District Court in Rogers City. He was charged with three counts of carrying concealed weapons. His bond was set at $50,000 10%.
The driver was issued a ticket for no drivers license and is expected to appear back in court on August 11th.
