DEARBORN, MI – On July 22nd, 2020, at approximately 7:30pm, Dearborn Police Officers responded to a residence in the 21000 block of Outer Drive for a 93-year-old woman who had been found deceased in her home. The on-scene investigation determined the woman had been injured and that items were missing from the home.
The victim, Maxine Callaghan, was a vibrant and independent 93-year-old Dearborn resident. She continued to volunteer at The Henry Ford and Herb Society. She enjoyed taking daily walks around her neighborhood and bird watching in her backyard.
The Dearborn Police Department worked around the clock with their local, state and federal partners. Subsequently in the investigation the suspect, Chantry Evan Rice, a 40-year-old Dearborn resident was identified. He was charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office with Homicide-Felony Murder. Rice was arraigned on Friday August 7th, 2020, before the Honorable Judge Gene Hunt of the 19th District Court.
Rice was remanded to the Wayne County Jail. A Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 21, 2020, at 9:00am.
