39 yr old Man Drowns in Presque Isle Falls

WAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – On Friday August 14th, 2020, at approximately 8:30pm, Michigan State Police Troopers from the Wakefield Post were dispatched to the Presque Isle Campground in Wakefield Township off of County Road 519 in Gogebic County, near the Presque Isle Falls after a 9-1-1 caller reported that a subject had fallen from the falls. 

Troopers from the Wakefield Post responded to the area, arrived on scene, and located a man in the water who was unresponsive and was later pronounced dead at the scene. The victim is a 39 year old man from Merrill, WI.

Officers were assisted on scene by U.S. Federal Forest Officers, Gogebic County Sheriffs Department, Gogebic County Search and Rescue, Beacon EMS, Porcupine Mountain DNR Officers, and dispatchers from Iron County Central Dispatch and Negaunee Regional Communications Center.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time until the next of kin has been notified.
