Alcohol and Speed may have factored into Schoolcraft County Fatal Motorcycle Crash

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, MI – On Saturday August 15th, 2020, at approximately 9:00 PM, a motorcycle driven by Markie Sumter, 52-years-old, of Manistique, was travelling northbound on State Rd near M-94 in Hiawatha Township, when he lost control leaving the roadway. The driver struck a tree and died to his injuries on-scene.

Markie Sumter was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.

The crash was investigated by MSP Manistique Outpost troopers and MSP Gladstone post personnel. Manistique EMS and Hiawatha TWP fire also assisted with the crash.
