Michigan State Police Shut Down Puppy Mill near Escanaba

MAPLE RIDGE TOWNSHIP, MI – On Monday August 24th, 2020, were sent on on call concerning a horse and then found another situation that left them sad and scrambling ressources when they located dozens of adult dogs and puppies in dire need to care.

Troopers from the Gladstone post were sent to check for a horse in the roadway which ended in busting a local puppy mill. 

65 adult dogs and 69 puppies were seized today from a residence in Delta County, Maple Ridge Township. Troopers say that many of the dogs were pregnant or recently had a litter of puppies. Some of the dogs were suspected to be malnourished and appeared to be in poor health. The investigation continues and the dogs will be evaluated by a local veterinarian.

Possible criminal charges will be sought with the Delta County Prosecutor’s office on the owner of the operation. 

The State Police were assisted by the Delta County Animal Shelter in taking possession and housing the animals. The Delta County Sheriff Department also assisted at the location.
