PONTIAC, MI – A 17-year-old Pontiac girl is in a heap of trouble after she decided to try and flee from a traffic stop where she ended up sliding into the driver’s seat position and taking off with a vehicle that was not hers to begin with. This is one of those stories that you just cannot make up.
A Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy on routine patrol in the area of S. Roselawn Drive & Auburn Avenue when they saw the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe commit a traffic violation.
The Deputy activated his emergency lights and siren and initiated a traffic stop. The man who was driving the vehicle pulled over and produced a valid operator’s license when asked. He had a 17-year-old female passenger with him. The officer mentally noted that she had vomit on her shirt and appeared to be intoxicated. What really caught the officers attention was when she stated there was a gun in the vehicle. The male subject was asked to exit the vehicle and step over to the patrol vehicle.
While the Deputy was speaking with the him, the female passenger fell out of the vehicle and onto the ground. She proceeded to get back inside, sliding into the driver’s seat, and then sped away from the scene.
The Deputy advised the Sheriff’s Operation Center the vehicle had fled the scene and that the driver of the vehicle was now a 17-year-old girl who was suspected of being highly intoxicated. The officer advised that the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed, driving in a reckless manner and violating several traffic laws. Shortly after that the suspected highly intoxicated teen lost control of the vehicle, hit an electric pole, and crashed into a parked vehicle.
Star EMS, the Waterford Fire Department, and DTE responded to the scene. The female was taken into custody and transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital for a blood draw. She was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending issuance of charges.
