NEW YORK, NY – Michigan State Police Second District Fugitive Team personnel went to New York to transport Valerian Kobaidze back to Michigan to face charges of Operating Intoxicated Causing Death, Failure to Stop at Accident When At Fault Causing Death and Reckless Driving Causing Death.

Kobaidze is alleged to have been the driver in an accident that occurred on July 14th, 2020, at 1:20AM in which his vehicle struck a motorcycle causing the death of the rider, Zachary Burk, 28 years old from Allen Park. Kobaidze is accused of fleeing the scene of the crash on foot and being intoxicated.

A warrant was issued for Kobaidze but he fled to New York attempting to leave the country on a flight. He was arrested by New York City Sheriff Deputies at the airport and held until Michigan State Police could transport him back to face charges.

He was arraigned on 9/10/2020 in the 36th District Court and given a $1 million dollar cash bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for an examination on 9/24/2020 at 9:00AM.
