Farmington Hills Man Dies in Diving Accident in St. Clair County

CLAY TOWNSHIP, MI – A 50 year old Farmington Hills man is dead following a diving accident yesterday in Little Muscamoot Bay in Clay Township.

Deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division were called to the bay at about 5:45 Sunday afternoon. Through investigation, it was determined the man was out on a boat with friends. Prior to leaving, the man wanted to dive into the water. He dove off the boat from about six feet in the air into about 3 ½ feet of water. He misjudged the dive angle and appears to have directly struck the river bed, causing fatal injuries.

He was removed from the water by friends and CPR was started immediately. He was then transported by Tri-Hospital EMS to Ascension River District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Clay Township Police, Clay Township Fire and Rescue and the Macomb County Sheriff Marine Division also assisted at the scene of the accident, which remains under investigation.
