GAYLORD, MI – Shortly after midnight, on Thursday, September 17th, 2020, troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post were called to a crash on Whitmarsh Road near Peanut Hill Road in Corwith Township.

Troopers arrived to find a 2006 Ford Explorer off the roadway and a woman deceased in the front passenger area. She was later identified as 22-year-old Brittany June Poirier from Vanderbilt. It was determined Brittany Poirier was not the driver of the vehicle.

An investigation led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Gaylord man who was located at his residence. The man had visible injuries and blood on his clothes and body when troopers contacted him. He was interviewed and arrested for Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, Driving While License Suspended Causing Death, Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident. He lodged at the Otsego County Jail pending formal charges from the Otsego County Prosecutor’s Office and arraignment.

The crash remains under investigation. Troopers were assisted by the Gaylord City Police Department, Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, and Otsego County EMS.
