DETROIT, MI – On Sunday September 27th, 2020, at approximately 4:00 AM, troopers from Metro South were requested to assist DPD with a suspect that was fleeing from one of their units. The suspect was known to have a long gun and almost struck an officer.
Troopers located the pursuit as it exited onto Grand River from I-96. The suspect vehicle became disabled as it attempted to turn on to Chicago from I-96 service drive. Troopers approached the suspect vehicle and gave the suspect verbal commands to exit the vehicle.
The suspect was removed from the vehicle and taken to the ground by DPD. The suspect began resisting and would not remove his hands from under his body. Troopers deployed OC/CS spray on the suspect which was effective. He was placed into custody.
A search of the suspect vehicle was completed and an AR-15 was located behind the driver’s seat. Detroit Police will be handling the investigation.
