OTSEGO COUNTY, MI – Gary Miles Pickvet Jr., 34-year-old, of Gaylord, went missing on Saturday October 3rd, 2020 and he was found dead in a ditch 3 days later under suspicious circumstances.
On Sunday October 4th, 2020, Michigan State Police launched an investigation into the disappearance of Gary Pickvet after a family member reported him to be missing. The investigation led to the interview of an acquaintance of Mr. Pickvet.
The acquaintance stated he had last seen Pickvet on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at approximately 7:00 p.m. The acquaintance and Pickvet were traveling on Alba Highway east of Alba. Pickvet reportedly requested to exit the vehicle and ran off into the woods.
Gary Pickvet Jr. was found dead in a ditch in Antrim County’s Star Township on October 6th, 2020. MSP troopers from the Gaylord Post found the body of Pickvet Tuesday evening in a ditch. At this time foul play is suspected in his death.
Gary Pickvet did have a criminal history that he did spend time in prison for. He was previously convicted for the following offences:
- Police Officer – Assault/Resist/Obstruct
- Malicious Destruction of Fire or Police Property
- Interfering with Electronic Communications
- 2 Counts of Assault with Dangerous Weapon (Felonious Assault) – Attempt
It is unknown if his criminal past had anything to do with his death.
MSP does not believe that the public is in any danger. No suspect information has been released at this time.
