ATTICA TOWNSHIP, MI – On Friday October 2nd, 2020, around 4:00 PM, Lapeer County 911 dispatched EMS to a private residences on Elk Lake Road in Attica Township for a vehicle that had fallen on an individual.

The individual was freed from beneath the vehicle by neighbors before the 911 call. The individual was conscious and alert.

Preliminary investigation is that 72-year-old, Norman Maxon, of Attica, utilized a jack to lift a pickup truck owned by him parked within his yard. Maxon was beneath the vehicle making repairs to it when the vehicle “slipped” off the jack. Maxon yelled for help while trapped beneath the vehicle. Neighbors heard Maxon yelling for help and were successful in being able to free him from beneath the vehicle utilizing jacks before call 911.

EMS transported Maxon to McLaren in Lapeer for medical treatment.

Norman Maxon remained hospitalized at McLaren in Lapeer for multiple days due to the injuries sustained during the accident. On Wednesday October 7th, 2020, during the morning hours, Maxon died due to his injuries.

The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office and Lapeer County Medical Examiner’s Office opened an investigation. Initial findings suggest that this was an unfortunate accidental death.
