HILLMAN, MI – Steven Casebier was wanted for larceny, fleeing and eluding, and assaulting a police officer. He was believed to be in the northeast Michigan area because he would frequent the Alpena and Hillman areas.
Because a felony warrant had been issued for Casebier, anyone who assisted him in his attempts to avoid arrest would be charged with assisting/harboring a known felony fugitive.
The MSP Fugitve Team had been out to his mothers residence on Pleasant Valley Road in Hillman searching for Casebier in early August. The team informed his mother, 55-year-old Elizabeth Marie Slater, that her son was a fugitive and the consequences she would face for harboring him.
On September 10th, 2020, Steven Casebier was arrested while hiding in his mothers home. Elizabeth Slater was arrested for harboring a fugitive. She was arraigned on September 25th, 2020, in the 88th District Court in Montmorency County on one count of Harboring a Felon. She was release on a $3,000 10% cash bond.
Steven Casebier is now facing further charges. Michigan State Police from the Alpena Post were contacted by the Alpena County Sheriff Office to investigate a complaint of a stolen vehicle that was believed to be in Montmorency County.
A Trooper from the Alpena Post and a deputy from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office went to an address on Pleasant Valley Road in the Village of Hillman where the stolen vehicle was believed to be located.
The 10 acre property had approximately 50 vehicles on it. The deputy saw and recognized a Jeep Wrangler that was in his stolen vehicle complaint. A check of the VIN found that it had been stolen in Alpena. Another Jeep Wrangler came back as being stolen from Alpena as well. The vehicle parts were being used on other Jeeps located on the property.
The report was turned over to the Montmorency County Prosecutors Office for review. A felony warrant was issued for Steven Casebier on September 8th. He was taken into custody on September 10th.
Steven Casebier was arraigned in the 88th District Court in Montmorency County on one count of Operating a Chop Shop which is a felony. He was released on a $25,000 cash surety bond. His next scheduled court appearance is on October 16th, 2020.
