PONTIAC, MI – Max Keith-John Bastien, 17-years-old, of Livingston County, was arrested on Saturday October 10th, 2020, at his home in Genoa Township with the assistance of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office during the execution of a search warrant obtained by Oakland County Sheriff’s Detectives in the murder of Christopher Grant Alexander.

At about 8:27 PM, on Friday October 9th, 2020, Oakland County Sheriff Deputies, Star EMS and the Waterford Township Regional Fire Department responded to the 100 block of Thorpe Street on the report of a man who was laying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his head.

The 18-year-old man, Christopher Grant Alexander, of Pontiac, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A large group had gathered at the scene and they were dispersed without incident.

The homicide occurred during a drug transaction for the purchase of less than one ounce of marijuana between Christopher Grant Alexander and the suspects. 

The suspect was a rear seat passenger in the car who fired one shot from a semi-auto handgun striking the victim in the head.

The 19-year-old male driver and the 17-year-old female front seat passenger are residents of Brighton were taken to the Pontiac Substation for questioning and were released pending further investigation.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team responded to Terry Lake near the 200 block of Merrimac Street in the City of Pontiac for an article search. During the investigation, it was ascertained that the weapon used may have been discarded in the lake.    

Divers located a 9mm handgun in the lake. The recovered handgun was turned over the Sheriff’s Forensic Lab.

On October 13, 2020 Max Keith-John Bastien was arraigned in front of the Honorable Judge Ronda Gross at the 50th District court in Pontiac. Mr. Bastien bond was denied at this time. His next court date is scheduled for October 20, 2020 at 1:30.
