Homeless Man Strikes other Homeless Man in Head with Brick Paver

ROYAL OAK, MI – Being homeless is never easy and those on the streets face challenges every day. Unfortunately, violence is a constant for these individuals.

On Tuesday, October 6th, 2020, at approximately 6:37 a.m., police officers in Royal Oak were dispatched Leo’s Coney Island, located at 110 S. Main, for a man who was assaulted and bleeding from his mouth.

Officers spoke with the 48-year-old man who stated he was homeless and sleeping on the porch of Genesis Church located at 309 N. Main. He stated he had an argument with another homeless man while they were sleeping on the church porch.

The suspect left the area and the victim went back to go to sleep. The suspect then returned to the church, picked up a cement paver and dropped it on the victim’s head. Another homeless man witnessed the assault and stated the name of the suspect was “Steve”.

Officers checked the area and located the suspect at Seventh St. and Lafayette. Officers were able to identify him as Steven Stribling and he was arrested for felonious assault.

Stribling also had a warrant for his arrest for Retail Fraud III out of 45th District Court. The victim was transported to William Beaumont Hospital and admitted for his injuries to his mouth and face.

On Wednesday, October 7th, 2020, Steven Joseph Stribling of Highland Park was arraigned before the Honorable Magistrate Chisolm of the 44th District Court.

Stribling was charged with one (1) count of Felonious Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, a felony which carries a penalty of 10 years in prison and fines up to $5,000.00.

Stribling’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 16, 2020 before the Honorable Judge Meineke of the 44th District Court.

Stribling has a lengthy criminal history consisting of seven arrests/convictions of Assault and Battery, Stalking, False Pretenses, Domestic Violence, and Disturbing the Peace. Stribling’s bond was set at $75,000.00, Cash/Surety, and no 10%.
