PONTIAC, MI – Oakland County Sheriff Deputies arrested Scott Furney, 22-years-old, of Pontiac for the fatal shooting of Michael Mulholland, 36-years-old, also of Pontiac, on October 11th, 2020 in the 100 block of Dwight Street.

At approximately 1:47 AM Oakland County Sheriff Deputies, the Waterford Regional Fire Department and Star EMS responded to the 100 block of Dwight Street on the report of medical assistance needed.

The caller reported that he had been walking to a friend’s house when he noticed a man lying in the middle of street. The subject was face down, not moving, and he appeared to be holding his head. There was a large pool of blood around his body.

Deputies, the Waterford Regional Fire Department and Star EMS arrived on scene. The victim, identified as Michael Mulholland, 36-years-old, of Pontiac, was found lying in the street with a single spent shell casing located near his feet. A fragment from the slug was located near his head. The victim was beyond help. Star EMS provided telemetry to a Physician from McLaren Oakland Hospital who pronounced the victim deceased. 

Deputies canvassed the area and a K9 Unit began a track, but was unsuccessful. Detectives, the Forensics Science Laboratory and an Investigator from the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office arrived on scene and began their investigations. The Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the deceased. An autopsy was completed. The incident remains under investigation.

Scott Furney has been charged with:

  • Homicide-Murder first degree-premediated-Life Felony
  • Possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony-2-year felony

Scott Furney was arraigned on Ocrtober 14th at the 50th District Court by Judge Gross. Bond was denied. Furney’s next court date is scheduled for October 22nd for a PCC at 1:30 P.M. in front of Judge Martinez. An exam date is scheduled for October 29th in front of Judge Martinez at 9:00 A.M.
