ELMIRA, MI – On Tuesday, October 13th, 2020, at approximately 11:07 p.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post and firefighters from the Elmira-Warner and Otsego County Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at the United States Post Office in Elmira. The building was fully engulfed in smoke and flames.
A preliminary investigation indicates the fire may have started on the interior of the building on the south side. The origin appears to be from an electrical outlet. The MSP 7th District Fire Marshal and an agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) will be on scene this afternoon to determine the exact cause of the fire. The MSP Aviation Unit will provide overhead mapping using the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS).
