FLINT TOWNSHIP, MI – A Flint Township man has been charged with attempted murder related to a shooting that occurred on Tuesday in the parking lot of a local Home Depot store.
In addition to one count of assault with intent to murder, Chancy Sherrod McGowan, 25-years-old, is charged with felony firearm, tampering with evidence, and carrying a concealed weapon.
Around 2:40PM on October 13, police and emergency medical responders were dispatched to the Home Depot store on Corunna Road in Flint Township for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, a 20-year-old Flint Township man was found next to a car with a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported to Hurley Medical Center where he remains in critical care.
The investigation remains ongoing but preliminary investigative reports indicate the victim and the shooter were well acquainted with each other.
“This was not a random act involving an innocent bystander or customer of Home Depot,” Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said. “The feud between the victim and the shooter had been ongoing for some time and, unfortunately, it spilled over into a very public place and in a very violent manner,” said Prosecutor Leyton.
McGowan will be arraigned in 67th District Court and a probable cause conference and preliminary examination will be scheduled.
