ADDISON TOWNSHIP, MI – Age is not a factor when it comes to one wanting to commit suicide. From the youngest to senior citizens, each one has their reasons to want to harm themselves.
Sadly, it appears a senior citizen in Addison Township lost their life to suicide on Thursday October 15th, 2020.
An Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled into the Sheriff’s Office Addison Township Substation located at 1440 Rochester Rd. in Lakeville and noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in the Police Vehicle parking area.
The officer approached the vehicle where they found the driver, a 78-year-old man, from the Village of Lenoard, slumped over in the driver seat, suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Deputy checked the victim and could find no signs of life and requested the Addison Township Fire Department (ATFD) to respond to the scene. Paramedics from ATFD provided telemetry to Ascension Providence Hospital – Rochester Hills where the attending Physician pronounced the subject deceased.
An Oakland County Sheriff’s Department Detective and an Investigator from the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
During a search of the victim’s vehicle they found his wallet. They also found copies of emails to family members, along with a .38 caliber revolver.
Subsequent contact with the victim’s son indicated the victim suffered from several on-going health issues. Sustained health issues can many times trigger severe depression.
The emails and handgun were taken as evidence and secured in the OCSO Property Room. The investigation continues.
