ONAWAY, MI – A West Virginia man was arrested for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon after threatening several people in Onaway while he fired a pistol in the air.
The man from West Virginia must have gotten confused somehow as to where he was at when he brought out two pistols and threatened several people in a rural area of Northeast Michigan. The population in Onaway that was most recently reported as of 2017 was 837 people. He must have stopped at the local saloon and had a Sasparilla or two before arriving at his ex-wifes property. But all of that is just speculation.
On Saturday October 10th, 2020, the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post responded to a report of an alleged Felonious Assault at a residence on M-33 in Onaway. The suspect fled the scene and was later stopped and arrested on M-33 in Montmorency County by the Montmorency County Sheriff’s Department.
Troopers spoke with those at the scene in Onaway. The suspect, Tony Raymond Brown, 58-years-old, of Beckley, West Virginia, had went to the property of his ex-wife and alledgedly pointed two pistols at several people who were on the property while threatening them. He fired one shot in the air before fleeing the scene. Troopers recovered a .45 calibur shell casing from the scene.
Deputies from the Montmorency County Sheriff’s Office stopped Brown while driving on M-33. He had the two pistols in his possession. Troopers arrived in Montmorency County where they took custody of Brown. He was transported to the Presque Isle County Jail.
Brown was arraigned on Tuesday October 13th, 2020, in the Presque Isle County District Court on five counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and two counts of Felony Firearms. He was released on a $100,000 cash bond. His next scheduled court appearance is on October 20th, 2020 at 8:30 AM.
