Huron Liquor - Pontiac

PONTIAC, MI – Oakland County Sheriff Deputies and Star EMS responded to the Huron Liquor Store located at 140 East Huron Street on the report of a subject who had been shot.

At 10:48PM, on Thursday October 21st, 2020, Deputies arrived on scene and located the victim, a 34-year-old man, of Pontiac, lying in the aisle of the party store suffering from two gunshot wounds. One wound was to his chest and the other to his pelvic area.

Star EMS transported the victim to McLaren Oakland Hospital for treatment of his wounds.

Video surveillance footage of the incident was reviewed. It showed that the suspect was paying for his items when the victim walked in and began punching the suspect repeatedly. The suspect and victim began to physically fight. As the fight leaves camera-view into one of the aisles, the other customers duck and take off running; possibly upon hearing the gunshots. The suspect then pays for his items and leaves the store.

As Deputies were on scene, the suspect’s mother contacted the Sheriff’s Operation Center from her residence in the 100 block of Vernon Drive. She advised that her 26-yer-old son had come home and stated that he had been attacked at the party store. He stated that he had shot the subject who had attacked him. Deputies responded to the residence and took the suspect into custody. The firearm was recovered, secured and taken for evidence. The suspect has a valid Concealed Pistol License (CPL).

The suspect was lodged at the Oakland County Jail. Detectives arrived on scene and began their investigation. The victim passed away this morning. The incident remains under investigation and will be submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office for determination if this was a justified homicide/self-defense.
