MOUNT PLEASANT, WI – A 30-year-old woman, Tia M. Sullivan, from Detroit, was accused and arrested for a stabbing assault at a Wisconsin Walmart and the robbery of an ATM user.
According to Sgt. Dale Swart, Mount Pleasant Police Department officers on Wednesday October 21st, 2020, were dispatched at 6:37 p.m. to the Walmart Neighborhood Market located at 5625 Washington Ave., for the report of an employee who had been attacked.
Upon arrival officers found an employee bleeding from the head and face caused by stab wounds. Her injuries were non-life threatening. She had been cut twice on the face and neck. The victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Though not overly clear how this transpired, Sullivan used her food stamp card to pay for the groceries of the customer in front of her without being asked. Sullivan then demanded the customer pay her back $191.93 for the purchase. The customer refused and then Sullivan demanded employees give her a refund. The employees refused to give her a refund and then Sullivan began to argue with an employee and pulled out a knife. Sullivan lunged at the employee and made several slashing and stabbing motions, causing injuries to the employee.
A pocket knife used in the Walmart assault was recovered.
Mount Pleasant Police officers began a search for Tia Sullivan. She was reportedly last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black hoodie and dark grey sweatpants, heading west on Washington Avenue.
At 7:09 p.m., Mount Pleasant Police were flagged down by a citizen at the Landmark Credit Union located at 6219 Washington Ave. The citizen reported they had just been robbed and gave the same description of suspect Tia Sullivan from the Walmart incident.
The citizen told officers that the suspect had approached them while they were at the ATM. The suspect threatened to shoot them and then physically wrestled with them for $20 before fleeing the scene.
Both Mount Pleasant Police and Racine County Sheriff Deputies were searching the area for Sullivan when a Racine County Sheriff’s deputy saw a suspect matching the description of Tia Sullivan. She was heading toward Kwik Trip located at 6801 Washington Ave.
Officers were able to detain and arrest her without further incident. No firearm was located for the ATM robbery.
Tia Sullivan was charged with felony counts of armed robbery, first degree recklessly endangering safety and aggravated battery, all with use of a dangerous weapon, and misdemeanor counts of obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct with use of a dangerous weapon.
