MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – In March 2020, the Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office along with the Mid-Michigan Area Group Narcotics Enforcement Team (MAGNET) detectives began a delivery of a controlled substance causing death investigation in Arcada Township.
A 29-year-old Alma male was found deceased by his roommate and was suspected to have died from a fatal overdose of fentanyl. Through investigation, two suspects were developed in this case. On September 9th, 2020, the Gratiot County Prosecutor’s office authorized charges on both suspects for Delivery of a Controlled Substance Causing Death, Delivery of Fentanyl, and Conspiracy.
On Tuesday, both suspects, Aaron Smith, 44-years-old, and Angela Giacolone, 43-years-old, both from Mt. Pleasant, were arraigned on these charges and were given a $250,000 cash bond. Both Smith and Giacolone are currently lodged at the Isabella County Jail on unrelated charges, awaiting further court hearings in Gratiot County.
